August 2 - Bird Festival at Bear Mountain On Saturday, August 2, 2008, from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M., Trailside Museums and Zoo, located at Bear Mountain State Park, will be celebrating the birds of New York State at our Bird Festival. Visitors can marvel at the many native birds we have on exhibit, like the bald eagle, great horned owl, black vultures, and more. For families, we will have child friendly activities such as making birdfeeders and turkey calls, The Bird Olympics, face painting, and other fun educational games and activities. For over 80 years, area residents and visitors to Bear Mountain State Park have learned about the natural and historic wonders of their surroundings by coming to Trailside Museums and Zoo. Here they can intimately experience the animals that might otherwise be a distant speck or a passing blur in the wild. Due to injury or human interference, the animals at Trailside cannot be released into the wild, which has ruined their chances for survival in nature. Now, these fantastic animals not only help us to teach visitors about regional wildlife, but they also help us to teach people about both the positive and negative effects that human activities have on nature. For more information about this program, please contact: Christopher O'Sullivan, Environmental Educator Trailside Museums and Zoo 845-786-2701 x 293. Trailside Museum and Zoo is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 7 days a week.
